World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to items are a method to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it may increase the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level, and also boost other stats.

The process of upgrading gear in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade item increases the cost of the next item by a specified amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's basic stats increase when it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high, depending on the upgrader you choose and the type of upgrade you choose to do. This is due to how many perks need to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.

It can also be used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It can also be used as a gating requirement when waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is capped at the lower levels). Players can see their average level of item on their character sheet.

The level of an item will allow players to compare the potency of gear when deciding to purchase or sell. It's a measure of the item's damage and its quality. The level of the item can be used to compare items when evaluating a vendor's inventory.

The item level can be checked by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item Upgrader kit and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are several theories about the method by which the level of an item is calculated. One theory is that the level is a number that comes from a formula that determines how much an item's stats are worth. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different worth, and also that sockets have gems that increase the item's overall value. This can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl, which is typically close to the actual Blizzard level of the item.

This isn't the only factor that influences the level of an item. The level of the area where the item was dropped can alter its stats. For example, it could increase the item's haste, or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more the ilvl than items from lower level instances.

Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant component of what determines the value of an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in different ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the most effective." The stat mods on a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's skill.

Upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. An item that is white or grey for instance, will only be upgraded one time however, items with rare tiers can be upgraded several times at higher prices.

Affixes can also be used to alter the stats of an item. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can do things like give the item extra damage, add a special ability to the item (such as reviving dead or reducing the duration of cooldowns) or make the item unique by putting an additional name to the item.

Presently, all affixes are able to be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with circling arrows. This will cost a specific amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade item gauges similar to other methods of rerolling.

Players can upgrade an item to a specific stat or reroll the affixes. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However every item will contain at least one stat within that range unless they are an item that is unique, or the item is a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could change is the option to upgrade equipment without having to reroll the attachments, or pick which stats to boost. But, like base equipment, this would have to be carried out on a per-item basis, and the item level upgrade compare interface would not display all the possible stats gained or lost at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the chances of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of the properties. It doesn't, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives players a chance to acquire better gear in earlier waves, and is therefore more beneficial in the early game than in later ones, as most players prioritize more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chances of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability which increases with each item level and can be further increased by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to give +40 Luck, or to increase the luck of an item, up to 140.

Certain items, such as the Hollow-infused weapon, can also be equipped to increase the damage of any skill that is able to deal damage by five percent. These items can be found in the shops or made by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are cash shop items which allow players to increase their chance of success or stop them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.

When you upgrade an item, the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of completing the upgrade successfully, and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to how much success rates can be increased, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%.

The success of an item upgrade is also affected by the Luck of that item. Every item has an average success rate of 25 percent, and each item that has Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.

Note that item upgrades are rendered above the items in the inventory, so enchantment glint and other effects could be obscured by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
