How to Replace an replacement audi key fob G28 Engine Speed Sensor

g28-car-keys-logo-white-green.pngCharles the Humble Technician shows how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is situated on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can start spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails the ECU will throw the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync and could indicate the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. However, the code won't appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult because there are two connector pins and they serve different purposes but the best method to test it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. If the sensor is operational, it should read approximately 1000 ohms. If you are having problems with this part, check for signs of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, i experienced massive power loss like the engine is out of gas or the injectors aren't firing anymore. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs. Three were drenched with gazoline the fourth was dry. When I start the engine with no sparks, i place a tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline pop out, but the 4th one stays closed. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I think the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue persists at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows temperatures of -49c. Also i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.

I'm not certain what to do, but i believe that i've ruled out everything else. However, i'm afraid that I might have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is the same as the G4 and both are used in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a wrecking yard or in a local parts store. It is simple to test them: simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and test the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing upwards). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that must know the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make decisions regarding fuel injector timing etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor spare G28 to accomplish this. If either of these sensors go badly, you will see codes on the diagnostic scanner which can cause the engine to shut down.

The signs of a malfunctioning G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox and gears that shift faster than normal and/or misfiring when you're in gear. If you have any of these issues, it is likely your sensor is going bad and needs replacing. They're inexpensive and easy to locate particularly in the case of an Bosch sensor like ours. Alternatively, the GM version of this part is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be a cause for many problems in your vehicle. It is an important part of the transmission of your audi keyless go because it relays information to the ECU about how fast or slowly the engine of the car is turning. When this sensor fails, it can affect the performance of the transmission as well as the other car's components.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It transmits a signal via an uncolored wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU uses this signal to regulate the amount of fuel and boost, and also to timigrate. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer, between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection via pin T6a/1 (trace [79]) and Audi replacement key Cost between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. There should be a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms between these points. This is a typical part across the audi Tt Replacement key 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC through the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU so good ones could be available in wrecking yards.young-couple-holding-the-keys-of-a-new-c
